Your chapter does an amazing job of layering worldbuilding, technology, and school dynamics it’s immersive and makes Anogwin feel lived-in and dangerous. How do you decide which technological details to focus on so they enhance the story without overwhelming the reader with exposition?
Each mystech device is based on at least the fundamental rules of the hard magic system I have in place. I've found it best to only briefly describe how each piece works, followed by showing how to use it and what its limitations are. Many mystech devices I build from the ground up with a system I've designed from scratch, including what magical components or symbols add what effect or alter what effect. There is a careful equilibrium between designing the tech thoroughly enough that it's believable but not over-explaining the mechanics unless it is relevant to the plot. Across all of my work, you will find tidbit references to a much greater world I've designed, but not completely unveiled. I do intend to have an article for every reference I make that goes into much more detail on each topic.
